Things to Know About Golf Cart Tires
A few things we wish every cart owner knew — it would save a lot of roadside headaches.
Salt Air Eats Tires Faster Than You Think
Living on the Emerald Coast means your tires are exposed to salt, UV, and humidity year-round. Sidewall cracking and dry rot happen faster here than inland — even if the tread still looks fine. If your tires are cracking along the sidewall, they need replacing regardless of tread depth.
DOT Tires Are Required for Street-Legal Carts
If your golf cart is registered and plated as an LSV in Florida, it must have DOT-rated tires to be road-legal. Non-DOT tires — even with good tread — make your cart non-compliant. We carry DOT street-legal tires in the most common sizes.
Tire Pressure Matters More Than You'd Expect
Overinflated tires cause a harsh ride and premature center wear. Underinflated tires cause sidewall damage, steering pull, and shorter battery range on electric carts. Check PSI monthly — most golf cart tires run between 18–22 PSI, but check your sidewall for the exact spec.
Mismatched Tires Cause Real Problems
Running different sizes or brands on the same cart causes uneven wear, pulling to one side, and over time can damage the differential. When replacing tires, matching all four is ideal. At minimum, match the pair on each axle.
Tread Depth Isn't the Only Indicator
We see carts with decent tread but tires that are 5+ years old, rock-hard, and cracked. Rubber compounds break down with age and sun exposure. If your tires are older than 4–5 years, they probably need replacing even if they look okay from a distance.
Lifted Carts Need Specific Tire Sizes
A lift kit changes your cart's tire clearance and often requires a different tire and wheel combination than stock. Running the wrong size on a lifted cart causes rubbing, speedometer inaccuracy, and premature wear. We stock tires for both stock-height and lifted carts.
