The Beach Better Renter Guide

Everything You Need For A Smooth Golf Cart Rental On The Emerald Coast

From booking to pickup to driving the streets of Miramar Beach, Destin, and 30A — this is your one-stop handbook for renting a street-legal Beach Better cart. Whether you're already booked or still planning, you'll find the answers right here.

The Short Version

Beach Better rentals are street-legal Florida Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs) with free delivery to approved Emerald Coast neighborhoods.

You can drive on Scenic 30A, Scenic Gulf Drive, and any road posted 35 mph or lower. Stay off Emerald Coast Parkway (Business 98) — crossing it at a traffic light is allowed, but driving along it is not. All drivers must be 22 or older with a valid license and active auto insurance. Charge electric carts every night. Text us at (850) 830-4699 with any question — texting is faster than calling.

Three Things To Do 48 Hours Before Pickup

A few quick steps to set yourself up for a smooth rental day.

01

Sign your rental agreement

You'll get an Adobe Sign link by email. Sign it, complete the driver list, and submit. We can't release a cart without a signed agreement on file.

02

Text us your rental gate code

If your vacation rental community is gated, text the gate code to (850) 830-4699 at least 24 hours before delivery so our driver can get in.

03

Verify auto insurance

All approved drivers must carry their own active auto insurance — your name needs to be on the policy. Add additional drivers online before they get behind the wheel.

Free Delivery Or 24/7 Store Pickup — Your Choice

Most renters choose delivery. The lockbox-and-code system means you can pick up your cart at any hour, no in-person handoff required.

Free Delivery

We deliver to approved vacation rentals in Miramar Beach, Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, and along 30A. Your cart may arrive a few hours early. The lockbox code is sent by email the morning of delivery and again by text once the cart is staged.

Store Pickup (Always Available)

Pick up at 76 N Holiday Rd, Miramar Beach, FL 32550 — next to Tom Thumb. The cart is locked to a stand with your code-protected lockbox. Use your code anytime, day or night.

Where The Lockbox Lives (By Cart Type)

Lockboxes are always black and code-protected. The exact location depends on which cart you're renting — your specific cart's guide has photos and step-by-step instructions:

  • 4-Seat Electric: Front passenger floorboard
  • 6-Seat Electric: Under the middle row seat (lift the cushion)
  • 6-Seat Gas: Under the middle row seat, on top of the gas tank

The Fleet Directory below links to the full guide for every cart in our fleet.

Where You Can And Cannot Drive Your Beach Better Cart

Every Beach Better rental is a Florida-titled, plated Low Speed Vehicle (LSV). That means you're held to the same traffic laws as any other car on the road — and the consequences for breaking them are the same. See our complete Florida golf cart laws guide for the full legal reference.

Where You Can Drive

  • Scenic Highway 30A through Santa Rosa Beach
  • Scenic Gulf Drive through Miramar Beach and Destin
  • All neighborhood streets posted 35 mph or lower
  • You may cross Business 98 at a traffic light, but never drive along it
Strictly Prohibited — Violations May Result In Fines, Fees, Or No Refund

Zero-Tolerance Rules

  • No alcohol or drugs while operating the LSV — Florida DUI laws apply
  • No cell phones or headsets for music while driving — prohibited under Florida law
  • No driving on US Highway 98 / Emerald Coast Parkway or its pedestrian paths (crossing at a traffic light is allowed)
  • No sidewalks, beach, or trails — LSVs are road vehicles only
  • No standing passengers — all occupants must be seated and belted at all times
  • No lap-riding or double-buckling
  • No children age 3 or under without a properly installed car seat
  • No pets in the cart
  • No items on the roof (chairs, coolers, bags, etc.)

Driver Requirements

  • Minimum age 22 years old
  • Valid state-issued driver's license
  • Active auto insurance with the driver's name on the policy
  • Listed and approved on the Beach Better rental agreement

First 2 additional drivers are free. Each driver after that is $15. Add a driver online before they take the wheel.

Your Insurance Is Primary

Your personal auto insurance covers this vehicle first — not Beach Better's. Rental Collision Protection (RCP) is an optional secondary add-on at $29.50 per driver per day.

Report Damage Immediately

If damage occurs, photograph it and text it to (850) 830-4699 right away. Do not wait until you leave town. Unreported damage discovered at return may result in additional charges.

The Golden Rule — Plug It In Whenever You Park

Electric carts come back to our shop dead more often than any other reason. Almost always, it traces to one missed overnight charge. Treat the charger like the cart's bedtime.

Charger LED Status

  • Red: Error — unplug, wait 30 seconds, try again
  • Orange blinking: Actively charging
  • Orange solid: Almost full
  • Green blinking: Top-off mode
  • Green solid: 100% charged and ready to roll

Charging Best Practices

  • Use a dedicated 120V outlet — nothing else plugged in
  • Battery depletes faster once it dips below 50%
  • Multiple carts need separate outlets (don't daisy-chain)
  • Always carry the extension cord with you — a missing cord is a $50 replacement fee, and it's also your safety net if you ever get stranded

Cart Won't Move?

  1. Check the tow switch under the seat — set to RUN, not TOW
  2. Turn the key fully right, back to center, then right again
  3. Press the Eco battery button if your cart has one
  4. Still stuck? Text (850) 830-4699
Dead Battery Or Stranded?

A dead battery is not a roadside emergency — Beach Better assists during normal business hours. Book a stranded cart pickup online for $200 flat tow service. Returning electric carts under 90% charge triggers a $100 recharge fee billed to the card on file.

Each cart's specific operating guide has charging port photos and exact battery details. Find your cart in the Fleet Directory below.

Renting A Gas Cart? A Few Key Differences.

Our gas fleet runs on regular 87 unleaded — the same fuel you put in most cars. No diesel, no premium needed.

Fuel Essentials

  • Fuel grade: 87 octane unleaded only
  • Tank location: Under the middle row seat
  • Return condition: Full tank, or $30 refuel fee applies
  • Prepaid fuel option: $18.50 — text (850) 830-4699 to add it before pickup

Headlights Are Manual

Gas cart headlights don't come on automatically. Use the dashboard switch — Position 1 is low beams, Position 2 is high beams. Florida law requires headlights on after dark.

Transparent Pricing — Here's What You Could Pay

No surprises at return. Here's our full fee breakdown if something goes sideways during your rental.

Cancellation Policy

  • Within 10 days of rental: No refund
  • More than 10 days prior: $50 cancellation fee
  • Weather recall by Beach Better: Prorated refund (only when we require the return for safety)
  • Early returns: No refund for any reason

Additional Fees

Fee Amount
Traffic citationTicket cost + $35 admin
Late return$100 / hour
Lost key or glow remote$50
Missing extension cord$50
Gas refuel$30
Electric recharge if returned under 90%$100
Stranded cart tow service$200
Florida Statute 812.155

Failure to return the LSV at the end of the rental period is prima facie evidence of intent to defraud under Florida law. Late returns carry the per-hour fee above and may also trigger legal action.

If There's An Accident, This Is The Drill

Accidents are rare, but when they happen, follow this exact sequence. Skipping a step can void your coverage. Calling 911 is required by Florida law for any accident — even single-vehicle. Never leave the scene.

01

Call 911 immediately

Required for any accident, even single-vehicle. A police report is non-negotiable for insurance and rental coverage.

02

Stay at the scene

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in Florida — the same law that applies to a car applies to your LSV. Do not leave under any circumstances.

03

Get a sheriff's accident report

Same process as a car accident. Note the responding officer's name and badge number, and get the report number before they leave.

04

Move to the roadside

When safe and legally permitted, move the cart and passengers out of the active travel lane to prevent further incidents.

05

Stay calm — speak only to police

Make no settlements with other parties at the scene. Do not admit fault. Cooperate with officers and provide your driver's license, registration, and insurance.

06

Collect witness info

Names, phone numbers, addresses, and where any injured parties are being treated. Witnesses help establish the truth of what happened.

07

Document everything

Photos and video of all damage to vehicles, the scene, license plates, and any visible injuries. The more documentation, the better.

08

Text Beach Better

Reach us at (850) 830-4699 as soon as the scene is secure. We'll walk you through next steps and the incident report.

09

Complete an incident report

Required for all accidents — no exceptions. We'll send the form by text or email; turnaround is typically same-day.

What Is Not An Emergency

Dead batteries and lost keys are not roadside emergencies. Beach Better handles these during normal business hours. Emergencies are crashes or theft only.

Read The Beach Flags Before You Go In The Water

South Walton beaches use a five-flag system. The flags fly at every public beach access — check before you swim.

Green
Low hazard. Calm conditions, normal precautions.
Yellow
Medium hazard. Moderate surf or currents — swim with care.
Single Red
High hazard. Strong surf or currents — swimming is not advised.
Double Red
Water closed to the public. Stay on the sand.
Purple
Dangerous marine life sighted (jellyfish, stingrays, sharks).

Caught In A Rip Current?

  1. Stay calm — most drownings come from panic, not the current
  2. Don't fight it directly — you can't outswim it
  3. Swim parallel to the shore until you're out of the channel
  4. Once free, swim at an angle back to the beach
  5. If exhausted, float and signal for help

Find Your Cart's Operating Guide

Every cart in our fleet has its own dedicated guide page — lockbox location, charging instructions, Bluetooth pairing, and operating tips specific to that cart. Find your cart code on your rental agreement, then click through to its full guide.

"Full Guide" badges mark carts with our newest guide format — packed with photos, lifestyle tips, and AI-friendly content. The rest link to our standard driver-info pages while we roll out the new format across the full fleet.

Quick Answers To Common Renter Questions

Where can I drive my Beach Better golf cart?

You can drive on Scenic 30A, Scenic Gulf Drive, and any Florida road posted 35 mph or lower. You can cross Emerald Coast Parkway (Business 98) at a traffic light, but you cannot drive along it. Sidewalks, beaches, grass, and walking trails are all off-limits.

Who is allowed to drive the cart?

All drivers must be at least 22 years old, hold a valid state-issued driver's license, carry active auto insurance in their own name, and be listed as an approved driver on the Beach Better rental agreement. Add a driver online.

Does Beach Better deliver?

Yes — free delivery to approved vacation rentals in Miramar Beach, Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, and along the 30A corridor. Some HOAs and resort communities don't permit rental carts; check our neighborhood rules page before booking.

How do I know which cart I'm renting?

Once your booking is confirmed, you'll see your specific cart ID (a short code like HB80 or BV55L) on your rental agreement and confirmation email. Each cart has its own dedicated guide page with photos, lockbox location, charging instructions, and operating tips. Find yours in the Fleet Directory above.

Can I take the cart to a different city or beach?

You can drive your Beach Better cart anywhere within our service area as long as you stay on LSV-legal roads. That includes 30A through Seaside, WaterColor, Rosemary Beach, and Alys Beach; Scenic Gulf Drive through Destin; and most of Miramar Beach. You cannot legally cross Choctawhatchee Bay by cart, and you cannot drive on Business 98.

What if I have a problem during my rental?

Text (850) 830-4699 first — texting is the fastest way to reach our team. For after-hours dead batteries or stranded carts, you can book a stranded cart pickup online ($200 flat tow fee).

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations within 10 days of your rental start date are non-refundable. Cancellations more than 10 days in advance carry a $50 fee. If Beach Better requires you to return your cart early due to severe weather, you'll receive a prorated refund.

Are the carts cleaned between rentals?

Yes. Every cart is detailed inside and out between rentals — wiped down, vacuumed, batteries fully charged or fueled, and inspected. If you'd like a mid-stay cleanup, we also offer an on-site Mobile Wash service that comes right to your rental.

Did You Know?

A "golf cart" and a "low speed vehicle" are not the same thing.

Most people use "golf cart" as a catch-all term, but from a legal standpoint, what you're renting is actually a Low Speed Vehicle (LSV). The difference matters on Florida roads.

A true golf cart has no VIN, no plate, no title, and cannot legally drive on public streets — only inside a community or on a golf course. A Low Speed Vehicle (LSV) has a VIN, a Florida license plate, a title, and is registered with the DMV to legally drive on public roads posted 35 mph or lower. Every Beach Better rental is an LSV — which is why you can legally cruise 30A, Scenic Gulf Drive, and any neighborhood street on the Emerald Coast.

Did You Know?

Every Beach Better cart has an Apple AirTag inside — and we want you to know it's there.

It's not hidden, it's not a surprise, and it's not us spying on your vacation. Every cart in the Beach Better fleet has a non-removable Apple AirTag installed for fleet security and recovery. If your iPhone alerts you that "an AirTag is moving with you," that's our cart — and it's expected.

Why we do it: stolen and lost carts used to be a big problem in this industry. AirTags let us recover a misplaced cart quickly, identify which cart is which during fleet operations, and assist renters who can't remember where they parked. To confirm the alert is from your rental, just match the cart ID on your windshield to the cart ID on your rental agreement. Total transparency — that's the Beach Better way.

Did You Know?

Not every golf cart windshield is actually safe — or street-legal. Look for the AS4 etching.

The windshield is the only thing between your face and whatever the cart kicks up at 25 mph. On a street-legal LSV, that windshield has to meet a specific safety standard — and not every cart on the road actually does.

The standard is called AS4. It's part of the ANSI Z26.1 motor vehicle safety glazing code. AS4-rated material is formulated to resist shattering, absorb impact, and protect the driver from road debris and minor collisions. Bargain windshields skip this certification entirely. How to verify yours is legitimate: look at the lower corner of the glass for an "AS4" etching or stamp. Both fold-down and fixed windshields can be AS4-rated — the style doesn't matter, the certification does. Every windshield in the Beach Better fleet is AS4-etched and inspected.
