The Rules Of The Road
Driving A Cart On 30A
Beach Better rentals are street-legal Low Speed Vehicles. Most of County Road 30A is posted 25-35 mph, which makes it cart-legal in the traffic lanes — but never on the Timpoochee Trail (the multi-use path) or sidewalks. Those are for pedestrians and cyclists only.
US Highway 98 is off-limits — speed limit's too high. You can cross 98 at signaled intersections, but never drive on it. Sidewalks, bike paths, beach sand, and trails are also off-limits. LSVs are registered motor vehicles — they belong in the road lanes.
Seatbelts required. Florida law requires car seats or boosters for children 5 and under. Every passenger needs their own dedicated seat and belt — no lap riding, ever, for anyone, including infants. 30A falls under Walton County jurisdiction — the Walton County Sheriff LSV regulations and approved-route map are the authoritative local source. Walton County also requires a free LSV safety sticker, available from the Sheriff's office.
The 30A Cart Day
Morning
Coffee run to one of the corridor's roastery cafes, then a slow cruise to the beach access nearest your community. The cart parks where the car can't — and on 30A in season, that matters by 9am.
Midday
Beach gear stays in the cart between the rental and the sand. Lunch at a Grayton or Blue Mountain spot, a swing through the farmers market, an ice cream stop — all corridor-distance, all without moving the car.
Evening
Sunset is the 30A cart's reason for existing. LED underglow on, Bluetooth low, the whole crew aboard, windows-down weather all the way to dinner. This is the ride people remember from the trip.
The Whole Week
The car becomes the airport vehicle and nothing else. Everything within the corridor — beach, dinner, market, the next town over — happens on the cart. That's the 30A way, and it's why so many renters book the full week.

Our carts come fully compliant — you don't need to obtain anything yourself. Walton County requires LSVs to display a free safety information sticker available from the Sheriff's office, and our fleet carries proper Florida registration, plates, and all required equipment. Drivers must be 22 or older with a valid driver's license. Florida's general LSV law allows 16+, but our commercial carrier insurance requires 22. The result: everyone listed on the agreement is fully insured throughout the rental. Two drivers are included; add a third for $15 via our e-sign add-a-driver form.
No — lap riding is illegal and unsafe for everyone, including infants. Florida law requires every passenger to have their own dedicated seat and seat belt. Children 5 and under must be in a proper car seat or booster.
Call 911 every time, regardless of injuries or whether anyone else is involved. LSV accidents are treated like car accidents in Florida — you need a formal police report. Stay at the scene, don't admit fault, then text (850) 830-4699 so we can support you.
Our shop is in Miramar Beach, which is a longer reach to the 30A corridor than to Destin — but our fleet is brand-new and well-maintained, so issues are rare. If something does come up, text us and we'll troubleshoot immediately and dispatch a tech as fast as we can. Most "problems" are simple fixes we can walk you through by text in minutes.
Any standard 110V outdoor outlet — most 30A rentals have one near the driveway, garage, or carport. We provide a 12-gauge outdoor-rated extension cord with every electric cart. Plug in whenever the cart isn't moving. Lithium batteries prefer to be kept topped off — no "memory effect." Never jump-start an LSV.
Real-world range in summer heat with 4-6 passengers: 25-35 miles for the 4-seat electric, 22-32 miles for the 6-seat electric. The 30A corridor is long, so if you're planning to range from Dune Allen all the way east repeatedly, the gas 6-seat removes any range concern. For staying within your community and the nearest few towns, electric is plenty.
No — Florida law prohibits any motor vehicle on Walton County beaches, including LSVs. You park the cart at the beach access point (most have cart parking) and walk the boardwalk to the sand. The reason is environmental: sea turtle nesting, dune protection, and emergency access.
No. Florida's DUI laws apply to LSVs exactly as they apply to cars — same .08 BAC threshold, same penalties, same Walton County enforcement. The sunset cruise is the cart's best use; the designated driver makes it work.
Yes and yes. Every seat has a 3-point seat belt that anchors properly to a forward-facing convertible car seat or a high-back booster. The second and third rows are wide enough for two car seats side-by-side. Florida law requires car seats for children 5 and under in any motor vehicle, including LSVs.
The 6-seat carts have a rear-facing back row that folds flat into a cargo deck — fits an umbrella, cooler, and a stack of chairs easily. Boogie boards strap to the rear cargo rail with bungees. For families that beach-load heavy, add the Removable Storage Box at $6.50/day — it holds a full cooler plus sand toys and folds away when you want all 6 seats back.
On 30A specifically, "no golf carts" often means the community genuinely restricts external rentals (Rosemary, Alys, Seaside, WaterColor, WaterSound, Prominence) — in which case there's no workaround. But sometimes a property manager is repeating a blanket statement that doesn't match the actual HOA rule. Dad bods are undefeated and we will not be slandering them on this website. Go with the 4-seat electric or 6-seat electric (non-lifted). Non-lifted carts have a lower step-in (~14-16 inches vs. 22+ on the gas lifted) so you slide in instead of climbing in, and the lower center of gravity means a smoother ride. The dignified entrance is yours. Save the lifted gas 6-seat for next summer.
Congratulations — and the answer is 4-seat electric. Non-lifted means an easier step-in (matters more in the third trimester), electric is whisper-quiet with no engine vibration through the seat, and 30A's smooth corridor roads make for a gentle ride. Full 3-point seat belts at every seat, which OBs prefer for any motor vehicle. Keep rides short and frequent — bathrooms exist for a reason.

The windshield blocks the wind chill that even a 25 mph cart creates, LED underglow helps with sunset visibility, and forward-facing seats are easier on motion-sensitive passengers (put the grandkids in the rear-facing back row).
