Red 6-Seat Electric Golf Cart — Operating Guide

Everything you need to drive, enjoy, and get the most out of your electric golf cart during your Beach Better rental in Miramar Beach, Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, and along 30A.

Florida Plate IXOOHJ Low Speed Vehicle (LSV)

Quick Answer

Your electric golf cart (cart ID RB78, Florida plate IXOOHJ) is a red 6-seat street-legal low speed vehicle (LSV) assigned to your Beach Better rental. The key is inside a lockbox under the driver's seat — the easiest way to reach it is from the middle row. Enter your 4-digit code (sent by email and text to approved drivers only), and retrieve the key. The cart runs on a 48V Trojan lead-acid battery system — keep it plugged in on the charger at all times whenever not in use. Connect your phone to the BEYOND Bluetooth speakers to stream music. Watch the Curtis triangle meter (left of the steering wheel) for charge level. Street-legal on Florida public roads posted 35 mph or lower. Stay off Emerald Coast Parkway (Business 98) — crossing over it is allowed, but driving along it is not. Return at 90% or higher to avoid a $100 low-charge fee.

Finding The Lockbox In Your Electric Golf Cart

Your key is waiting inside a lockbox mounted under the driver's seat. The easiest way to reach it is by accessing it from the middle row of the cart. Your 4-digit access code is sent to approved drivers only — by email the night before your rental begins and again by email and text when the reservation starts.

01

Walk to the middle row of the cart

Your electric golf cart seats 6 in three rows. Stand at the middle row — the seat between the front driver and passenger seats and the rear-facing back seat. This gives you the clearest access to the lockbox.

02

Lift up the driver's seat cushion from the middle row

Reach in from the middle row and lift up the driver's seat cushion — it hinges upward for access. You will see the lockbox mounted underneath.

03

Enter your 4-digit code

Turn the dials on the lockbox to match your 4-digit access code. Codes are only sent to approved drivers listed on the rental agreement — not to every member of your group.

04

Retrieve the key and close the lockbox

Open the lockbox and take the key to your electric golf cart. Close and re-lock the lockbox so it stays secure during your rental. Keep the key with you when not driving.

Cannot Find Your Code?

Access codes are emailed to approved drivers the night before the rental begins, then emailed and texted again when the reservation starts. If you do not have the code, ask the primary renter in your group — they received it too — or check your email spam folder.

How To Charge Your Electric Golf Cart

Golden rule: plug in whenever parked. Charge overnight every night. Your electric golf cart uses a 48V Trojan lead-acid battery system paired with a Lester charger. Lead-acid batteries depend on consistent top-up charging to stay healthy — do not wait until the battery is low before you plug in.

01

Plug the charging cord into the cart first

Connect the cord to the golf cart's charging port before plugging into the wall. Always carry the charging cord with you — a missing extension cord carries a $50 replacement fee.

02

Plug into a dedicated wall outlet

Use a standard household outlet with nothing else plugged into it. If you are charging multiple carts, each needs its own separate outlet — do not share circuits.

03

Confirm the Lester charger is working

The Lester charger has its own status indicator. A steady sound or light confirms it is charging. If the charger does not engage, unplug, wait 30 seconds, and try again.

04

Leave plugged in overnight

A full charge takes approximately 8 to 10 hours for a lead-acid system. Overnight charging is standard. Lead-acid batteries benefit from reaching 100% every night, not just "close enough."

Reading The Curtis Triangle Meter

Your electric golf cart does not have a digital screen. Your charge level is shown on the Curtis triangle meter mounted to the left of the steering wheel. A row of red bars lights up to indicate battery capacity.

What You See What It Means
All bars lit (full triangle) Fully charged — 100% ready to drive.
Most bars lit High charge — safe for a full day of local driving.
About half the bars lit Mid-charge — head back toward your rental soon and plan to charge.
Few bars remaining Low charge — return to your rental now. Do not attempt additional long drives.
Only 1 bar or flashing Critically low — risk of running out. Get to an outlet immediately.

Protect Your Trip

A cart that runs out of charge away from your rental property will need to be towed back at your expense. Keep an eye on the Curtis triangle meter throughout the day — especially in hot weather, with a full load of passengers, or on longer drives along 30A or Scenic Gulf Drive. Carts returned below 90% charge are subject to a $100 low-charge fee.

Cart Will Not Move? Try This First

Check The Tow Switch

The tow switch must be set to RUN (not TOW) for the cart to operate. It is usually located near the battery compartment under the seat.

Turn The Key Twice

Turn the key fully to the right, then back to center, then to the right again. This wakes the system.

Where You Can And Cannot Drive Your Electric Golf Cart

Your electric golf cart is a titled, plated low speed vehicle (LSV) registered with the State of Florida. You can drive it on public roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or lower.

Yes — You Can Drive Here

30A (Santa Rosa Beach), Scenic Gulf Drive (Miramar Beach and Destin), Scenic Highway 98, and any public Florida road posted at 35 mph or lower. Most neighborhood streets along the Emerald Coast.

No — Do Not Drive Here

Do not drive along Emerald Coast Parkway (Business 98). You can cross it at traffic lights, just do not drive on it. Also avoid sidewalks, the beach itself, grass areas, walking trails, or any road posted above 35 mph. Violations carry tickets and risk of immediate cart confiscation with no refund.

Driver Requirements

Operators must hold a valid state-issued driver's license, be at least 22 years of age, carry active auto insurance in their name, and be listed as an approved driver on your Beach Better rental agreement.

Seat Belts & Passengers

Florida law requires every passenger to wear a seat belt in an LSV. Your electric golf cart has seat belts at every seat. Car seats required for children under 3. No lap riding or double-buckling.

Headlights After Dark

Headlights are required after dark in Florida. Your electric golf cart has LED headlights that turn on through the dashboard controls.

No Phone, No Drinking

Do not use your cell phone while driving. Do not operate your electric golf cart under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Violations are treated identically to driving a passenger car in Florida.

Bluetooth Speakers And LED Glow Party Lights

Your electric golf cart has a Bluetooth speaker system and LED glow party lights. Stream music and take hands-free calls from your phone directly through the cart speakers.

Connecting Your Phone To The Bluetooth Speakers

01

Power on the speaker system

Turn the key to the ON position. Press the POW/MOD button on the speaker control panel to wake the system.

02

Open Bluetooth settings on your phone

Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and look for a device named BEYOND in the available devices list. Tap to connect.

03

Confirm the connection

When paired, the speaker display will show BT AUD. Start playing music from any app on your phone — Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, YouTube — and it will stream to the cart.

04

Hands-free calls

Press Volume to answer an incoming call. Press BND to hang up. Keep your eyes on the road.

Using The LED Glow Party Lights

Activating The Lights

Start the cart. Press the power button on the silver remote fob on the dashboard to turn the LED glow lights on.

Customizing Colors & Modes

Use the remote fob to cycle through colors, pattern modes, and speeds. Find your favorite combination for the drive.

Remote Not Working?

If the lights do not respond, flip the black switch with a blue indicator light on the dashboard to enable the light circuit. Do not adjust other toggle switches — this will cut power to the lights.

Night Driving

LED glow lights add night-drive ambiance but do not replace headlights. Florida law requires headlights on after dark. Use the dashboard controls to turn on the LED headlights separately.

Accidents, AirTag Tracking, And What To Do In An Emergency

In An Accident — Call 911

Florida law requires calling 911 for any accident involving an LSV, even single-vehicle. Stay at the scene. Do not move the cart unless directed by law enforcement. Get the officer's name and badge number. Gather witness info. Document with photos and video. Then notify Beach Better.

AirTag Tracking

Every Beach Better rental cart has a non-removable Apple AirTag for fleet security. If your phone shows an AirTag alert, confirm the cart ID on the windshield matches your rental. This is normal.

Mechanical Issue During Your Trip

Text (850) 830-4699 with a photo or short description of the issue. Our service team will walk you through next steps as quickly as possible.

Collision Protection (RCP)

Renter's Collision Protection reduces your out-of-pocket responsibility if an accident occurs. If you purchased RCP at booking, it already applies to your electric golf cart. If not, add it now before your next drive.

Stranded Cart Recovery

Battery Ran Completely Dead? Book A Tow.

If your electric golf cart runs out of charge away from your rental property, we can dispatch a tow to pick up the cart and return it for recharging. This service is at the renter's expense because it results from not monitoring the battery level during use. Book the tow directly from the Beach Better Square scheduler.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the lockbox?

The lockbox is mounted under the driver's seat. The easiest way to reach it is from the middle row of the cart — lift up the driver's seat cushion to reveal the lockbox underneath. Your 4-digit access code is sent to approved drivers only, by email the night before your rental and again by email and text when your reservation begins. If you do not have the code, ask the primary renter in your group or check your email spam folder.

What kind of golf cart is this?

Your rental is a red 6-seat electric low speed vehicle (LSV), cart ID RB78, Florida plate IXOOHJ. It is powered by a 48V Trojan lead-acid battery system with a Lester charger. It is titled, plated, and street-legal in Florida on roads posted 35 mph or lower.

Does the cart have Bluetooth speakers?

Yes. Your electric golf cart has a Bluetooth speaker system. Turn the key to ON, press the POW/MOD button on the speaker control panel, then connect to the device named "BEYOND" in your phone's Bluetooth settings. Once paired, the display shows "BT AUD" and you can stream music from any app on your phone.

How do I know how much charge is left on the cart?

Check the Curtis triangle meter mounted to the left of the steering wheel. A row of red bars lights up to show battery capacity — more bars means more charge. When only a few bars remain, head back to your rental and plug in.

How long does the battery last on a full charge?

On a full charge, the Trojan lead-acid battery system typically supports a full day of normal vacation driving — roughly 25 to 35 miles depending on speed, passenger load, and terrain. Lead-acid batteries perform best with daily full overnight charging. Charge every night to start each day with 100%.

Can I add a second cart to my reservation if my group is bigger than I expected?

Yes. You can book a second rental cart online at any time during your stay, subject to fleet availability. Visit rent.alwaysbeachbetter.com to browse available carts and add one to the same delivery address.

Can my spouse or family member drive the cart?

Only drivers listed and approved on your Beach Better rental agreement may operate the cart. The first 2 additional drivers are free — each additional driver after that is $15. Add drivers online through our Adobe Sign driver approval form before they take the wheel.

How old do I have to be to drive the cart?

The minimum age to operate your electric golf cart is 22 years old. The driver must also hold a valid state-issued driver's license, carry active auto insurance in their own name, and be listed as an approved driver on the Beach Better rental agreement.

What happens if I return the cart with a low battery?

Electric rental carts must be returned with a battery charge of 90% or higher. Carts returned below 90% are subject to a $100 low-charge fee charged to the card on file. Charge overnight before your return date to avoid the fee.

What if the cart dies while I am driving it?

If the cart runs completely out of charge away from your rental property, Beach Better offers a paid stranded-cart pickup service. Book the tow through our Square scheduler. The service is at the renter's expense because it results from not monitoring the battery level.

Why will the cart not move?

First, check that the tow switch is set to RUN, not TOW. Then try turning the key fully to the right, back to center, and to the right again. If the cart still will not move, text (850) 830-4699 and we will help troubleshoot.

Where can I drive along 30A, Destin, and Miramar Beach?

Your electric golf cart is street-legal on any Florida public road posted at 35 mph or lower. That includes 30A in Santa Rosa Beach, Scenic Gulf Drive in Miramar Beach and Destin, Scenic Highway 98, and most neighborhood streets. Do not drive along Emerald Coast Parkway (Business 98), but you can cross over it at traffic lights. Avoid sidewalks, the beach, grass, trails, or any road posted above 35 mph.

Does the cart have seat belts for all 6 passengers?

Yes. Your electric golf cart is equipped with seat belts at every seat. Florida law requires all passengers in a low speed vehicle to wear seat belts. Car seats are required for children under 3. No lap riding and no double-buckling.

Can I fold the rear seat down to carry beach gear?

Yes. The rear seat folds down to create a flat cargo surface — useful for coolers, beach chairs, umbrellas, groceries, and luggage. The cargo area is open-air, so secure loose items before driving.

What do I do if I get an AirTag alert on my phone?

Every Beach Better rental cart has a non-removable Apple AirTag installed for fleet security. An alert on your phone during your rental is expected. Check the unique cart ID on the windshield — if it matches RB78, the alert is coming from your rental and no action is needed.
