Riding With Kids, Read This First

Most groups in a mint four seater have a small person or two on board, so we are putting this at the top instead of burying it. None of it is complicated, and none of it is optional.

• Four seats means four riders. One belt per person, buckled, every trip, including the short ones. Nobody rides on a lap, nobody stands, nobody perches on the back while it is moving. There are no doors here and nothing to catch a kid who leans.
• Car seats come with you. Florida Statute 316.613 requires a child through age 3 to ride in a separate carrier or an integrated child seat, and a booster does not satisfy it. A child aged 4 or 5 needs a carrier, an integrated seat, or a booster.
• Little ones ride in back. Farther from anything up front, and easier to keep an eye on.
• Nobody under 22 touches the wheel. Not in a parking lot, not on a quiet street, not "just to move it." Approved drivers are 22 or older, licensed, insured in their own name, and listed on the signed agreement before the rental starts. That is who gets the lockbox code, and anyone else driving is prohibited use that voids coverage and puts responsibility on the renter.
• Hands and feet inside, always. Kids reach for things. Say it out loud before you pull away, the way you would in a boat.

Two more: phones stay down while the vehicle is moving, handheld or hands free, and Florida DUI law applies here exactly as it does to a car. Before the first drive, walk around it and look at tires, belts, lights and body, and text a photo of anything odd to (850) 830-4699. If there is a crash, call 911, stay at the scene, report it, then text us.

Key First

Middle row seat lifts on its armrest and the lockbox is sitting there beside the battery.

1. Lift the front seat by the armrest.
2. Roll your four digits into a straight line. They sit half a notch off more often than you would think.
3. Slide the black button down and take the key. Close the seat before anyone sits on it.

Getting Moving

1. Everyone buckled before the key turns. Make it the rule on day one and you will not fight about it on day four.
2. Tow switch on RUN. Near the battery under the seat, or passenger side by the glovebox. Left on TOW, the cart is intentionally dead.
3. Turn the key twice. First click lights the dash, second click wakes the motor. One click is why most carts "will not start."
4. Pick F or R only at a full stop.
5. Ease onto the pedal. It is instant and silent, which surprises people the first time.
6. Use headlights, blinkers and the horn. Drivers here are scanning for cars, so make yourself obvious.

The Nightly Plug In

One chore, every night, and the week runs itself. Standard wall outlet, about eight hours from low to full, and topping off during the day costs nothing. About 20 to 22 miles on a full pack. Load, terrain and speed move that number more than anything else.

• Plug it in when you plug in your phone. Same habit, same time, and nobody wakes up stranded.
• Its own outlet. Two vehicles on one circuit trips the breaker overnight. Stagger them if you only have the one.
• Older house? Clear that circuit. Coffee maker and TV unplugged before the charger goes in.
• Both cord ends light up. That glow is your confirmation. Dark ends mean a dead outlet.
• Cord rides in the cart. Not the kitchen counter. A dead pack at the far end of 30A is a $200 tow.

Want to check where you stand? Round gauge on the passenger side, just above the glovebox. Look at it before the trip out, not on the way back.

Lights, Music, General Fun

The glow system is the thing the kids will ask about within four minutes. Turn the key until the dash lights, find the small silver remote tethered to the dashboard, press Power.

• Mode cycles solid, seven chase patterns, pulse, scan, strobe, fade, S.O.S, plus modes that react to your music.
• Color covers red, hot pink, pink, purple, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, white, and two cycling options. Yes, they will want to try all of them.
• Speed runs five levels.

Glow lights are decoration, not headlights, so run your real headlights after dark and use your blinkers. For music, turn the key to on, open Bluetooth on your phone and select this cart's speaker. Keep it low enough to hear a siren, and turn it down through the neighborhoods at night.

Where You Can Take The Crew

L4MB05L is titled, tagged and insured as a Low Speed Vehicle under Florida Statute 320.01 and 49 C.F.R. 571.500, and Florida Statute 316.2122 puts it on public roads posted 35 mph or less. Scenic Gulf Drive through Miramar Beach and Destin, County Road 30A through Santa Rosa Beach, and the neighborhood streets in between.

Never

US-98 at any point, including crossing anywhere except a signalized intersection. Sidewalks, beach walkovers, dune trails and the sand are out too, no matter how capable the lift makes it look.

Parking with a carload

Marked spaces only, and never blocking a walkover, a bike lane, a crosswalk, a hydrant or someone's driveway. Set the parking brake, take the key, take the phones and bags, and never leave a child or a pet sitting in a parked vehicle. Check your address on the Neighborhood Rules page too, since several communities do not allow rental vehicles at all.

The AirTag, Your Start, Your Finish

Every vehicle carries an Apple AirTag that cannot be removed, so we can find you fast if you need us. If your phone flags an unknown AirTag traveling with you, that is ours. The ID is L4MB05L, printed on the windshield.

It shows up clean and charged by your start time, sometimes early, because drivers run a geographic route rather than a clock. Early is yours to use. If nobody is home we park it neatly out of the way.

1. Charge to 90 percent or better and leave it plugged in. Under 90 is a $100 charge.
2. Key back in the lockbox and scramble the digits. Cord back under the seat.
3. Text (850) 830-4699 when it is ready. We come at the end of the rental or shortly after, depending on the route.

Easy money to keep: key or remote $50, cord $50, stranded tow $200, late return $100 an hour, citations passed through plus $35 admin. The rest is in the Terms.

When It Will Not Cooperate

No charge

Cord ends dark, go to the breaker. Tripped GFI is almost always the answer. Reset, replug, watch for the glow. Still nothing, unplug for thirty seconds and retry. Two carts need two circuits.

No start, no movement

Tow switch on RUN. Key twice right. Parking brake off. Selector fully in F or R. In that order.

Anything that feels off

Soft tire, steering that pulls, a long brake pedal, a warning light. Park somewhere safe and legal and text us rather than pushing on with the family aboard.
