Sunset Is The Whole Point, So Let Us Talk About Dusk

Everybody wants the same drive: leave around seven, roll west with the windows that do not exist, watch the sky do its thing. It is the best hour on the coast and it is also the hour with the most people walking in the road and the least light to see them by.

• Headlights on before you think you need them. Navy is a gorgeous color and a nearly invisible one at dusk. Lights on early, tail lights working, blinkers used.
• Assume somebody is crossing. Families walk back from the beach in dark clothes, barefoot, carrying chairs, looking at nothing. Cover the brake through any stretch with parked cars.
• Glow lights are decoration, not lighting. They make you look good. They do not make you visible. Run the real headlights regardless of what color the underglow is doing.
• Sound comes down after dark. Neighborhood streets, windows open, people sleeping. Keep it low enough to hear a siren and a shout, and drop it further once the sun is gone.

Rules That Do Not Bend

1. Four seats, four belts, four people. Kids counted the same as adults. No laps, no standing, nobody on the back step while it moves, hands and feet inside.
2. Approved drivers only. 22 or older, valid license, active auto insurance in their own name, listed and approved on the signed agreement before the rental began. That is who gets the lockbox code. Anyone else driving is prohibited use, which voids coverage and shifts responsibility to the renter.
3. Car seats come along. Florida Statute 316.613 requires a child through age 3 in a separate carrier or an integrated child seat, and a booster is not enough. A child aged 4 or 5 needs a carrier, an integrated seat, or a booster.
4. Phone down while moving, and pick your driver before dinner. All phone and device use in motion is prohibited, handheld and hands free. Florida DUI law applies to this vehicle exactly as it does to a car, and sunset drives have a way of turning into dinner drinks.
5. Walk around it first. Tires, belts, lights, body. Text a photo of anything wrong to (850) 830-4699 before you pull out. If there is a crash: 911, stay, report, then text us.

Key, Then Ignition

Lockbox is under the front seat, beside the battery. The front seat lifts on its armrest.

1. Lift the front seat by the armrest. The whole cushion swings up.
2. Line the four digits up straight. Then slide the black button down and the lid pops with the key inside. Close the seat before anyone sits on it.
3. Tow switch on RUN. Near the battery under the seat, or on the passenger side by the glovebox. On TOW the vehicle is dead on purpose.
4. Key twice to the right. First click lights the dash and the screen, second click wakes the drive. One click is why most carts seem broken.
5. F or R at a complete stop, then ease onto the pedal. Electric torque is instant and silent.

The Screen And The Sound

The touchscreen wakes with the dash on that first click of the key. If it is dark, turn the key a little further before you assume anything is wrong, and give it a moment to boot. A full key off, count to five, key on cycle clears most glitches. A dead screen does not stop you driving, and the round battery gauge works regardless.

For music, turn the key to on, open Bluetooth on your phone and select this cart's speaker. Once it pairs it stays paired for the week.

Working The Glow

Dash lit, then find the small silver remote tethered to the dashboard and press Power.

• Mode steps through solid, seven running patterns, pulse, scan, strobe, fade, S.O.S, plus music and voice reactive modes.
• Color covers red, hot pink, pink, purple, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, white, color cycle and color fade.
• Speed runs five levels.

Charge It Overnight, Read It Before You Leave

Lithium ECO battery. Plug into a standard wall outlet every night, about eight hours from low to full, and top it up any time it is parked. The round gauge sits above the glovebox on the passenger side and reads honest the whole way down, so believe it. A full pack runs about 20 to 22 miles, which is a long day of short trips rather than one long one.

• Plug in nightly, even after a short run. Habit beats memory on vacation.
• One outlet per vehicle. Two on one circuit trips the breaker overnight.
• Older place, clear the circuit. Coffee maker and TV unplugged from that outlet first.
• Both cord ends glow when it is charging. Dark ends mean a dead outlet.
• Cord rides in the vehicle. A flat pack at the far end of 30A is a $200 tow.

Where The Sunset Run Can Legally Go

L4NB75L is titled, tagged and insured as a Low Speed Vehicle under Florida Statute 320.01 and 49 C.F.R. 571.500. Florida Statute 316.2122 puts it on public roads posted 35 mph or less, which is Scenic Gulf Drive through Miramar Beach and Destin, County Road 30A through Santa Rosa Beach, and the neighborhood streets between.

Never US-98 at any point, including crossing it anywhere but a signalized intersection. Never sidewalks, beach walkovers, dune trails or the sand. If the plan is to watch the sun go down, park in a marked space and walk the last bit rather than nosing onto a walkover.

Communities set their own rules on private roads, and several along 30A and inside Sandestin do not allow rental vehicles at all. Check your address on the Neighborhood Rules page before you plan the evening.

AirTag, Arrival, Return

An Apple AirTag rides in every vehicle and cannot be removed, so we can find you fast when you need help. If your phone flags an unknown AirTag traveling with you, that is ours, and the ID is L4NB75L, matching the windshield.

It lands clean and charged by your start time, sometimes early, because drivers run a geographic route rather than the clock. Early is yours. If nobody is home we park it neatly out of the way.

1. Charge to 90 percent or better and leave it plugged in. Under 90 is a $100 charge.
2. Key back in the lockbox, digits scrambled. Cord back under the seat.
3. Text (850) 830-4699 when it is ready. We come at the end of the rental or shortly after.

Charges worth dodging: key or remote $50, cord $50, stranded tow $200, late return $100 an hour, citations passed through plus $35 admin. The rest is in the Terms.

If It Misbehaves

Will not charge

Dark cord ends means the breaker. A tripped GFI is nearly always it. Reset, replug, watch for the glow. If not, unplug thirty seconds and retry. Two vehicles need two circuits.

Will not start or move

Tow switch on RUN, key twice right, parking brake off, selector fully in F or R. That order.

Screen dark or frozen

Key fully off, five seconds, key back on. If it stays dark, text us a photo. You can still drive.
