The Screen, Since You Are Going To Play With It Anyway

Turn the key to the first position and the display wakes up with the dash. Connect your iPhone and CarPlay takes over the screen: Maps, Apple Music, Spotify, podcasts, messages read aloud. Audio runs out through the cart speakers, so whatever is playing on the phone is playing for the whole crew.

• Screen dark? Ninety percent of the time the key is not turned far enough. Give it that first click until the dash is fully lit, then wait a beat for the screen to boot.
• Frozen or stuck? Key all the way off, count to five, key back on. That clears it. A dead screen does not stop you driving, and the round battery gauge still works.
• Set your route before you roll. Punch in the destination while parked. Once the wheels are turning, hands off the screen and off the phone.

Before Anyone Drives It

Short version: this is a licensed motor vehicle, it weighs a fraction of a car, it sits tall on a lift, and it has nothing around you. Drive it accordingly and it is the best week of the trip.

• Four seats, four belts, four riders, no creative seating. No laps, no standing, nothing hanging out the side. There are no doors and no airbags, so the belt is the whole system.
• Drivers must be 22 or older, licensed, carrying their own active auto insurance, and listed and approved on the signed agreement before the rental starts. Codes go to approved drivers only, and anyone else driving is prohibited use that voids coverage and shifts responsibility to the renter.
• Car seats still apply. Florida Statute 316.613 requires a child through age 3 to ride in a separate carrier or an integrated child seat, and a booster is not enough. A child aged 4 or 5 needs a carrier, an integrated seat, or a booster.
• Alcohol. Florida DUI law treats this exactly like your car. Hand the key to someone approved and sober.
• Walk around it once before the first drive. Tires, belts, lights, body. Text a photo of anything odd to (850) 830-4699. If there is a crash: 911, stay, report, then text us.

Getting The Key: Look Down, Not Under

No cushions to lift on this one. Sit in the driver's seat, look down and to your right, and the lockbox is on the front row floorboard on the passenger side, below the glovebox, right where a passenger's foot would rest.

1. Front row floorboard, passenger side. Below the glovebox. Nothing to lift, nothing to move.
2. Line the four digits up straight. They like to sit a half notch off, so eyeball it.
3. Slide the black button down. Lid pops, key inside. Put the seat back down before you go anywhere.

Starting It

1. Belts on before the key goes in. Sets the tone for everyone else in the cart.
2. Tow switch must read RUN. Look near the battery under the seat, or passenger side by the glovebox. On TOW the whole vehicle plays dead on purpose.
3. Two clicks right on the key. One lights the dash and the screen, two wakes the drive motor. One click is the single most common reason a cart "will not start."
4. F or R, at a complete stop only.
5. Feather the pedal. Electric torque is instant and silent. Take the first block gently.
6. Headlights, blinkers, horn. All there, all expected on public roads.

Charging, And Reading The Gauge

Plug it into any standard outlet at the end of the night. Eight hours or so takes it from low to full, and topping off during the day is free real estate. Two ways to see where you stand: the round gauge above the glovebox on the passenger side, and the screen once the cart is on.

• Every night, no exceptions. Even after a quick run to dinner.
• One outlet per vehicle. Two on a single circuit trips the breaker. Stagger if you have to.
• Older place, clear circuit. Unplug the coffee maker before the charger goes in.
• Both cord ends glow when it is really charging. Dark ends mean a dead outlet and a morning you do not want.
• Cord stays with the cart. Leaving it at the condo is how a fun day ends with a $200 tow.

Sound And Glow

CarPlay handles audio through the cart speakers once your phone is connected. Prefer plain Bluetooth? Key to on, open Bluetooth on your phone, pick this cart's speaker, done. Either way, keep the volume where you can still hear traffic and a siren, and drop it through the neighborhoods after dark.

For the lights, wake the dash first, then find the small silver remote tethered to the dashboard and press Power. Mode steps through solid, seven chase patterns, pulse, scan, strobe, fade, S.O.S and music or voice reactive modes. Color covers red, hot pink, pink, purple, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, white and two cycling options. Speed has five levels.

Glow lights are decoration, not headlights. Run the real headlights after sunset and use your blinkers.

Legal Roads, Plain English

L4WB95L is a Low Speed Vehicle under Florida Statute 320.01 and 49 C.F.R. 571.500, titled, tagged, registered and insured. Florida Statute 316.2122 puts it on public roads posted 35 mph or less, which around here means Scenic Gulf Drive through Miramar Beach and Destin and County Road 30A through Santa Rosa Beach. Orange lines on the map are your roads.

Never on US-98 at any point, including crossing it anywhere other than a signalized intersection. Never on sidewalks, beach walkovers, trails or the sand. And check your address on the Neighborhood Rules page, because several communities along 30A and inside Sandestin do not allow rental vehicles at all no matter what the state says.

The AirTag, And Wrapping Up

There is an Apple AirTag in every vehicle we rent and it does not come out. It is how we reach you fast if something goes sideways. If your phone flags an unknown AirTag traveling with you, that is ours, and the ID is L4WB95L, matching the windshield.

Delivery runs on a geographic route rather than the clock, which is how it stays free, so your cart may show up before your window opens. It is yours the moment it lands. If nobody is home we park it neatly out of the way.

1. Charge to 90 percent or better, leave it plugged in. Under 90 is $100.
2. Key in the lockbox, digits scrambled. Cord back under the seat.
3. Text (850) 830-4699 when it is ready. We come at the end of the rental or shortly after.

Avoidable charges: key or remote $50, cord $50, stranded tow $200, late return $100 per hour, citations passed through plus $35 admin. Everything else is in the Terms.

If It Acts Up

Will not charge

Cord ends dark means start at the breaker. A tripped GFI is nearly always it. Reset, replug, look for the glow. If that fails, unplug for thirty seconds and try again. Two carts need two circuits.

Will not start or move

Tow switch on RUN, key twice right, parking brake released, selector actually in F or R. That order, every time.

Screen is dead

Full key off, five seconds, key back on. If it stays dark, text us a photo. You can still drive and the round gauge still reads your charge.
